review 1: Sheila Turnage writes similes better than anyone in the business. This book about a girl named Moses (she was found as in infant floating in a river after a hurricane by a man with amnesia) is from a small town in Eastern NC. She is best friends with a boy named Dale and they have created the Desperado Detective agency to solve crimes, because they solved a murder in the first book "Three Times Lucky". The story involves small town politics, a still, a 50 year old murder, a ghost, financial shenanigans, a dog named Queen Elizabeth, and a million other things that make this book as complicated as a symphony but 100 times more fun.
review 2: It's often the case that a sequel to an author's widely acclaimed first book in a series (and I hope this is a series!) ... moreis not as good. Well THANK YOU Sheila Turnage for being an exception to that rule! Mo LoBeau is as fantastic as ever and this story kept me glued till the very end. It may be hard for some younger readers to catch the humor right away. The dialogue is as witty as it gets and Mo's character is hilarious! Great heartfelt, funny, southern-without-being-corny read for any age. The ghost story brought a few tears, but the ending is perfect with most loose ends tied up (which leads me to believe there will be a third. Please write a third!). If you're looking for a light, but not shallow, read that has a little mystery, paranormal activity and a lot of heart...read this book! less
