review 1: I typically don't read Christian novels- having said that I found this one refreshing, not preachy or religious- I enjoyed the inner dialogue and can relate to broken lives- It was not a Cinderella meets a billionaire story - (thank goodness)- I bought it on audio and listened on my way to work for a week- found myself pulling out a few tissues- it's a good read and presents some real issues and how this woman worked through them- recommended! I would add that the audio book has the music playing that the Angels sang (playing in various parts). really addedTo the story - Would recommend the audio version- can't get the full effect in book version for this particular book-
review 2: "Ann woke up earlier than usual the next morning, surprised by the sil
... moreence. Not one single note of music. As much as this should have relieved her--and it did, to some degree--it also left her feeling as though something was missing."This book had a slow start for me, but I think it had to do with my mind still stuck on the other book I just finished. Ann, a woman in her early 30's, is someone who is soul searching, and yearning for truth in her life. Although she doesn't know quite where to find it, she realizes that all along, God is there with her even in times when He feels most absent. While going back to her hometown, Ann discovers parts of her life that she never wanted to revisit before; those remnants she avoided for so long and that now, were catching up to her. She struggles like most women would and fights to keep her life in control. She soon realizes that even when things don't make sense, there is a God out there who has been watching her all this time. Interwoven with beautiful imagery and striking characters, Ann comes to acknowledge God by the people He sends to be a part of her life. Their kindness and dedication is not one she understands and I think that's what's also great about this book. It is a realization of how life is always constantly changing, but a reminder--in that the same--that God will never change. I like all the characters, and there's a lot to learn and take from each one. Keith, who is a loving boy is often rejected and treated as an outsider because he has Down Syndrome. His special ability and gift from God though is that he has a heart that loves without end and is unconditional. Many would mistaken this as foolishness, but I think we all need this kind of person in our lives...that will always be there to greet us and offer a hug when all things feels so complicated. Keith does just that, he is a squirming little joy that has a big heart. One of my favorite lines in the book was this section: "Annie, Annie. I knew you'd be back soon. I just knew it......Ann hugged back, so amazed at the sense of love that seemed to follow this kid. "You did? How did you know?""It told me so.""Your angel?""No. My heart did.""Your heart was right.""Yeah, I know." :')"Never doubt your heart." He said it as if he were telling her that the sun rises every morning and sets every night. :')Overall, this book is about the old meeting the new, and how we can't come to understand our present lives without looking back at once was. Although to me, it has a bitter notation, it reminds me all the same. Ann, I could relate to as a person, because her hurts are deep, and she is one who tries to run away and ignore the pain she feels. She's brilliant, beyond doubt, but needs a little reminder from time to time, that she must open her heart to truly love and be loved again. less
