review 1: Sheila Walsh in her powerful book, LET GO, speaks truth into life's struggles: God loves you right now; nothing you can do to make God love you more...or less. In a transparent sharing of her own challenges, she encourages us, drawing us to God's promises of love, presence, grace, mercy & hope. I read this at lunch @ school as a devotional, half a chapter a day - plenty to digest along with my yogurt & banana!I'm a gatherer of quotes:"A state of mind that sees God in everything is evidence of growth in grace & a thankful heart." Charles Finney (p. 3) My devotional this morning challenged my self-indulgent self to "GROW up!"I share Sheila's heart as she prays: "Help me to feast on your glorious gift of fresh-baked grace every morning." (p. 13) "...may I let go of the s... moretale bread of religion and instead partake of your fresh-baked grace today." (p. 26)If we say "God is in control" then this statement from THE TRUTHS WE MUST BELIEVE by Dr. Chris Thurman shouldn't be so hard to swallow: "What should have happened DID." (p. 33)"This is the true joy in life - being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances." -- George Bernard Shaw (p. 38)"Are you trapped in the "It SHOULD have been different" place? ...LET GO of wishing things had been different." (p. 46)"The sacrifice you want is a broken spirit. A broken & repentant heart, O God you will not despise." Psalm 51:17 (p. 66)"An overcomer is not someone who has never fallen, but someone who knows where her true strength lies." (in God!)(p. 94)"It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life." Philippians 4:7 MSG (p. 95)I've called Proverbs 3:5&6 "my life verse" for a long time & it means increasingly more as life rumbles on. I echo Sheila's daily prayer: "Father, today I place my hand in your hand. Wherever you are going, I'm coming with you. I won't always understand, but I trust your heart. I trust your love." (p. 158)"All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen." Ralph Waldo Emerson"God's love for you is the very essence of who he is, and he cannot change." (p. 172)"I pray that the love of God will compel you to LET GO of whatever you hold on to tightly & hold on only to him." Truth Carol: "You are loved, and you are never alone." (p. 174)"* LET GO of trying to fix this. * LET GO of trying to work out what will happen. * LET GO of protecting yourself." (p. 212) "Hope is the resting place..." (p. 213)I love a word study: God will "deliver me" = recover, rescue, strengthen, drag out of danger. PTL! ( p. 232-234)
review 2: In her newest book, “Let Go”, Sheila Walsh shares her personal experiences and insights in finding deliverance and enjoying the freedom that a personal relationship with Christ brings.Sheila shares the details of some of her darkest times and how grace and her faith in Christ brought her out of those hard places. From a young girl who lost her father at an early age and carried the guilt of his death for many years to a grown women facing depression, Sheila learned how to let go and release her fears, anger and unforgiveness.Sheila writes: “The events, stories, quotes and passages of Scripture you’ve read in this book have been God’s tools to change my perspective of what deliverance should look like.” She goes on to share that God has delivered her threefold from hopelessness, self-protection, and unforgiveness. Each chapter of the book begins with inspirational quotes and a passage or two from The Message bible, while at the end there’s a “deliverance discovered” section with questions to help you self-reflect along with a “prayer of deliverance”. This book examines many of the areas that women often struggle with (recurring bad habits, fear, loneliness, eating issues, self esteem and more), but places a special emphasis on grace, and how it liberates and sets the captive free. less
