review 1: I read the first book, The Burning Sky just last month. I gave that book a 3.5 star rating. I liked book two just a little less and for a lot of the same reasons I gave for book one. I found parts of Iolanthe and Titus adventure in the desert confusing. One thing that still bugs me is how many names a character goes by, for instance Titus is also known as Prince, Master of the Domain, his highness, etc.. which I understand different acquaintances can call you by a different name but when your main characters are under a memory spell it just makes it more confusing. I also wanted a romance to blossom between Titus and Iolanthe but their relationship basically stayed the same as book one. I just think their misadventures in magic and battling the bad guys would make for a mo... morere fun read if it took place based from their school while Iolanthe is under cover as a boy. Sigh, I'll still pick up the next book but I do want more.
review 2: Just finished the PERILOUS SEA and readers should definitely consider reading THE BURNING SKY before jumping into this second installment. Titus and Iolanthe are pulled apart when Titus begins to question his interpretation of his mother's visions. The story is told in flash forward/flashback style but all of the threads weave together nicely at the end. A cliffhanger ending will leave readers impatiently awaiting the final boo in the trilogy. less
