Lilah's Adventures
review 1: I didn't realize until after I started reading this book that it is the most recent book in the series. Lilah is the 12-year-old daughter of a noble who chafes against her protected life. One night she assumes the guise of a poor boy and goes into the village near her home to find out what life is like on the other side of the fence. She finds out much more than she bargained for and gets sucked up into a revolution to over-throw the current king. Her and three other children find unique ways to help the adults and try not to get captured in the process.I liked the fact that the story took place over a long period of time. Lilah and her friends don't instantly know what to do in certain situations, they make some mistakes and learn from them and spend some time traini... moreng so they can effectively help. I also like that the magic is more a replacement of technology and doesn't play any real part in the story. There aren't mages casting spells against one another, rather spells have been cast on objects to do certain jobs. Like a spell is cast on a frame so you step through it to get clean and clean your clothes, and a spell is cast on a sink so you fill it with water and just dip the dirty dishes in to clean them and flick an enchanted towel at them to get them dry.
review 2: I really enjoyed this. I don't think Sam will choose to read it yet - it's got a bloody revolution (hopefully now you're singing "Heresy" by Rush). It wasn't as violent as this kind of thing could be though.Overall it's a pretty typical fantasy book - king, unhappy citizens, staging a revolution, etc. Some magic but not as much as some books have. The main character is a strong female, which I always like - especially in books I'm giving to my daughter. :-) less

It was ok, but it dragged. I got bored during the middle and wandered off for about a month.
