review 1: This one had a bit more thinking before acting, which is appreciated. A necessary side effect of Edwin not having access to his family or his armor. Edwin finds a workaround for the armor issue. Which leads to a lot of Molly saying, "Eddie, this isn't like you!" Which would make sense, plot-wise, etc., except his choices and actions are NOT all that different than they were in books 4 or 5. This creates a bit of a problem for the reader because I'm just not buying that Eddie is better and more moral than most of his family, which creates a problem for being worried about Eddie as he worries about whether he's the source of his darker feelings or not.
review 2: I'm a big fan of the 'Secret Histories' series of books. I love the mix of gritty action, macabre mys
... moreticism, witty repartee and wry comedy. However, this book was..Meh.'Live and Let Drood' reminded me of regular-season college basketball game-Exciting beginning, boring in the middle, outstanding end with many twists and turns. I got to finally view the Metcalf sisters in all their glory, what was REALLY in the hedge maze, who the Most Evil Man in the World is, and the Department of the Uncanny (rumored in previous novels)... And I STILL wasn't enraptured until the very end. It still is a great story. Can't wait for the next book in the series! less
