review 1: Took me a little while to get into this one, but it's a really well-told story. The protagonist, a young man living in Ireland in the early 1980s, faces a lot of questions about identity, patriotism, principles, history, loyalty, faith, and family... and finds no easy answers. What is worth fighting for? What is the best way to do that fighting? What is the history-- and the future-- of Ireland and its people? And how can any of us find peace and hope in the midst of strife and struggle?
