The Hunchback Assignments
review 1: Modo and Octivia are on a mission for Mr. Socrates, they were to look for the submarine fish, Ictineo, when their ship was hit, sending Modo crashing down into the icy water below. Octivia, still on the ship, has to save herself by sailing the ship back to shore and leaving Modo and hoping for the best. Modo then finds himself in the submarine Ictineo with Colette, an enemy spy. Soon later, the Clockwork guide finds their submarine and tries to take over it, but Colette, Modo and Captain Monturiol work together to save the Ictneo and sink the Clockwork Guide`s ship.Reasons I picked up the book: I have already read the thought it was really good so I decided to read the second book as well.Reasons I finished the book: I wonder if Modo will unite with Octivia and get back to... more Mr. Socrates with his amazing discovery about the Ictineo and Colette.Who I would recommend this book to: I would recommend this series of books to Joyce, because she read A series of unfortunate event and thought is was good and this series is kind of like the series of unfortunate events.
review 2: Although this is a YA book, I still enjoyed the story - the plot was excting, the characters were interesting and well-written.Modo, the young shape-shifting hunch-back, and Octavia his partner in spying, have once again been given an assignment by their mysterious employer, Mr Socrates in service of England.A particular spot on the ocean has suddenly become a dangerous place, where any ships who sail there are damaged at best, having to limp back to port, or sunk at worst with all hands lost. Another agent has been killed investigating, and now Mr. Socrates hopes Octavia and Modo, with their unique skills can figure out what's going on.As previously mentioned, the story is a good one, intrigues on the high seas, spies from multiple countries, the old nemesis of The Clockwork Guild, and new nefarious characters, all contribute to an enjoyable mystery/thriller. less

I didn't read the first in the series so that might have helped me enjoy the story more.
