review 1: I like funny books.I love funny books.I love them even more when they have such an unexpected concept.Poppy Wyatt is the kind of adorable person who makes everyone go before her and whose fate decided that she would meet Magnus, a rich doctor who desperately fell in love with her and no more than a month after they met proposed to her. That's for you the portrait of the perfect normal girl who meets the charming prince.Except when she loses the oh-so-important-and-precious engagement ring Magnus's family had passed through generations, and worse, her phone that anyone who'd find the ring should call her on.Plot twist: She finds a phone in the bin.Plot twist 2: The phone belongs to a businessman's PA that receives all his important mails. But Poppy needs that phone and is det... moreerminate to keep it until she finds the ring. And this is how the deal was made with Sam Roxton.Keeping the phone to the condition she'd forward all the mail without reading any. What was really funny in the book was the way they actually help each other even though they clearly do not get along. Poppy messes with his personal and professional life and it's not something Sam is used to; I mean who likes to get into complete awkward situations with his boss and workmates? And yet, it actually fixes many aspects of his life.On the other hand, Sam wonders what leads Poppy to have such an over-friendly behaviour towards people and actually helps her having more confidence.I personally loved every single part of this book from the beginning to the end. The scrabble part, the dentist part, the fake ring part, the forest part, everything~The original part of the concept? The texts they send to each other. They make me smile everytime I open the book. They're short and yet show the development of the two characters very efficiently. Whether it is by the lessening of smileys Poppy sends or by how Sam's texts sound more "human". Unexpectedly, in the span of a few weeks, they became closer than they ever were to anyone.Poppy's narration is very smooth and authentic, funny and full of all the characters' emotions thanks to well-turned descriptions not all authors could have. The references to Hercule Poirot made me laugh quite a bunch of time!Overly-human, she cannot understand why Sam must be so cold with people and so closed to people's feelings. As she narrates, she describes exactly what she "sees" from the characters and all the emotions are clearly exchanged. As for Sam, he's the kind of cold business guy who only cares about well-done job and as long as it doesn't go out from his routine. Only one person can pull him out of his office : his boss, sir Nicholas Murray. And eventually, Poppy Wyatt. So when Poppy starts turning his whole routine upside-down (I mean she accepted for him a trip to Guatemala?), and that his boss actually enjoys it, what to do?
review 2: Okay, I have read the reviews that weren't favorable and perhaps taking over a phone isn't realistic, but really -- who cares? I don't read Sophie Kinsella for realism or literature. I'm sure she doesn't mean it to be either. It was a light, enjoyable read when I was going through a very challenging time. Her characters are believable and likable. I watch people every day do things far more ridiculous or make much the same relationship choices. Poppy was not dumb, she just allowed others to make her feel that way and it made me look at how much I allow other people's actions to frame what I think about myself. (I can't tell you how many times I've said to friends, "But you can't possibly know that's what they are thinking.") Anyway, I enjoyed it, it's a fast, funny read. less
