review 1: The heroine was a haughty conceited and unpleasant posh. Completely unlikable. Moreover the author kept the mystery behind her marriage to another man, while secretly betrothed to Christian for over 110 pages, 1/3rd of the book, and that definitely killed all feelings I might have had for her if I had learnt all before.I hated how she ordered him around, without giving him the tenth of the information he needed to pursue the investigation. Honestly in those conditions, I would have simply refused to help her. But on page 30 something, the hero wondered "what sort of self-flagellating moron" he was. I wondered too. And kept wondering that until the end of the book.I deeply dislike when one member of one couple is completely dominated mentally by the other and behaves like a ... morepuppy. That's the case here and the reason why I did not enjoy this book.Otherwise the investigation behind the mysterious previous husband and his business ventures was really interesting.
review 2: Once upon a time there were seven men.All had returned from behind the enemy lines.where every day they risked their lives for king and countryOnce they had returned home they realized that they had more dangerous situations to come. That of dealing with the doting and scheming mothers of yet unwed girls.Set upon in their own gentlemen clubs. They start their own club - the Bastion Club - and the story starts as each member identifies the woman they want to marry and set out to woo her.But these women are not giddy girls. They are strong women who know their own minds. And, so, winning them isn't easy. And each come with danger hanging over their heads.A mystery that must be solved before they can truly be happy.I think that's what I love about this series. It's the thought that the men have come from dangerous backgrounds as spies, never expecting to come into titles and wealth, well, at least some of them, and them having to find a way to bridge the distance between their self-imposed isolation to dealing with society again. I also love how strong the women are. These are women who decide what they want from life, which is difficult when you consider the world they live in. The men are strong, dominant and sexy as all out, but they're still strong enough to indulge their women in what they want to do. But, you know, the story's not over yet. There's still one more gentlemen who needs to find his lady. Dalziel. The ex-commander of the Bastion Club spies. A man who has featured in all the other books. Dalziel is the most dangerous of them all and I'm looking forward to re-reading his story as well. less

Finally the last member of the Bastion Club Christian Michael Allardyce 6th Marquess of Dearne has reclaimed his first and only love Lady Letitia Randall. They were lovers years before but certain unfortunate circumstances led to them being apart. But now that fate once again has given this two passionate lovers to fulfill their dreams and vows to each other. At first I didn't took a liking to Letitia's character for she has a formidable temper, impatient and very haughty. She has such a very strong personality. And Christian knows her very well enough just to leave her be when she is in a ranting mood. I am intrigued with the introduction of a new side character here in the name of Neville Roscoe. I have a feeling he will have his own story later on. I was hoping that the elusive traitor from the previous books will resurface once again but so far not a peep from him in this story. Perhaps in Dyziel's story he will be captured and revealed once and for all. I am kind of excited to read Dyziel's story since in the Epilogue his real identity has been revealed but the circumstances about his past and how he came about to working in the whitehall came to pass. This was a another enjoyable romantic story with a mix of mystery and murder. I think that Letitia is my least fave heroine in this series. There is just something about her that I don't like. She is just a tad too much of a tonnish lady for me to admire. She is not exactly gentle with dealing with other people. She is quite bitter, although given the reality of her first marriage it was understandable.

Review taken from my blog in September 2010:I think Stephanie Laurens might well become one of my favourite authors ~obviously not No. 1 that distinction goes to another Stephanie .... Meyer~ I really love her easy style of penning a romantic novel.I think I might have got one with an old cover, as this image of the cover I have been reading was quite hard to find ~the newer ones by Harper and Collins give the novel a much trashier feel, which is a huge shame ....but then, is it right to judge a book by its cover? The 7th one in the Bastion Club stable, it still stands alone and was a thoroughly good read, with no need to have read any of the others before .... just as well, I have only just read one other in the series ... actually only 2 from Stephanie Laurens so far anyway LOL.Again, it's steamy, and again, I loved it ~a thoroughly good read~ trust me I've read a LOT of romantic historical novels over the years.
