review 1: I admit I have quite a shameful number of books in my to-be-read pile, but I couldn't resist reading something short and creepy, so of course, who wouldn't say no to a Kindle Single by Stephen King no less. I am not much of a baseball fan myself - I know how it is played; some of my closest friends used to play the game in high school; and one of my travel highlights was when I saw a live baseball game in the Target field in Minneapolis. I know, I should love it, right?! But this game just bores me to tears! However Stephen King has written some books about it and I loved these stories (Blockade Billy, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon) and well, I thought, maybe I'll give this one a chance. This was a story about an avid fan of baseball who has just recently lost his wife. One... more night, while watching a game on tv, he suddenly sees a familiar face in the crowd. A very dead friend. To say anything else would give away the plot! But let me tell you, this is a story that's not your average day at the ballpark.I finished this novella in practically one sitting and it's a clever read. If you are a King fan and you dig baseball, A Face in the Crowd is worth your while, but it’s not his best work.
review 2: After listening all of Stephen King's books that have ever been published, I am still excited to read another title from SK, even if its just a very short story. As a SK's follower, the constant reader knows that King have a passion for baseball. I even read the "Faithful", about the Red Sox winning in 2004. It's not a surprise that he would write a story on the game, but what is surprising, that he had a co author for "A Face in the Crowd." Maybe because Stewart O'Nan was a co author of the "Faithful" also. It is a perfect match between the two authors because they are both die hard into baseball.Nevertheless, SK's novels and his novellas never gets old. Unless you are a huge Red Sox fan, skip "Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season", because its a baseball diary between Stephen King and his friends. As for "A Face in the Crowd", its a classic writing, short and demented. less
