review 1: My expectations were really high for this book, and I really wanted to like it. This just felt like scraps and half-finished ideas that Stephen King didn't want to use for The Stand. As hard as I tried, I couldn't stop comparing this book to The Stand which may have tainted my overall impression. I didn't find myself caring about the characters in this story nor what was going to happen to them. The whole story felt like Stephen King was trying too hard to recreate what made The Stand such a terrifying and unforgettable experience.I'm giving this 2-stars because I've only read part one - and that there are some genuinely terrifying moments in this book (just not enough of them). I'm hesitant to read part two but I think I'm going to wait a while before doin... moreg so.
review 2: I have wanted to read this book ever since I started watching Season 1 on the show, and now I have finally had the chance. Although this is only the first half of the original book, it diffidently had its far share of drama and suspense. Right from the first page King had captured my attention. The Dome comes crashing down, and everyone's life in the small town of Chester's Mill is changed forever. From the large range of characters in the town to the setting there is never a dull moment.Big Jim Rennie runs the town, but not in a conventional way. When the Dome comes down, a lot of this wrong doings come to light. His son Junior has learned a lot of this things from the father and being confined to Chester's Mill doesn't help. Dale Barbie and Julia Shumway meet after the Dome drops, and band together to bring down Big Jim. The first half of the novel was 640 pages, and that only covered the first 3-4 days since the Dome came down. Although it is a long book, it is well worth the read for those who enjoy a horror and suspense read. I am looking forward to the second installment and the conclusion of the book. less
