review 1: My 10 year old son checked this out from the library, but I picked it up to read just a few pages and couldn't put it down. For a book written for kids, I loved the premise and the main character. Dash was a cool, smart, normal kid that seemed believable in his words, thoughts, and actions. I loved the idea of a moon base with the first humans living there and how unglamorous that would really be. The story sucked me in right from the beginning. The mystery was exciting and the ending surprising. This was an enjoyable read, even for an adult.
review 2: A good choice for upper elementary students who like mysteries, this is the story of Dash (short for Dashiell, of course) a boy who lives with his family and several other families and scientists on man's first b
... morease on the moon. It's both a hard and boring life, and when one of the base scientists dies in a suspicious accident soon after Dash overhears him discussing a huge discovery he is about to make public, Dash suspects foul play. But the base commander orders him to not talk to anyone about his suspicions! Give to kids who like books like Hoot or Flush, or who enjoyed Gibbs' other books (Belly Up). Has humor, action, and maybe just enough sci-fi for kids who look for that element in their books. Probably best for boys, though some girls may enjoy the story as well. A solid offering for strong readers grades 4-6 less

Great book! I read it aloud to my students and every day they were begging for a few more pages!

This is a creative, engaging murder mystery that takes place in a moon colony in 2041.
