review 1: Stuart MacBride is one of my favourite author's ... as is the norm for his book's the violence come's thick, fast & unflinching, the story is gritty with certain point's prompting a 'Nooooo' from the reader it's dripping with black humour and the character's are either broken, morally flawed, sadist's or all three. Ash, Alice, Wee Free et al are all superb, well formed & believable character's .. i couldn't put this book down, it's a cracking read & a real page turner. Surprisingly for SM the ending is quite neat .. threw me off to be honest as he usally leave's you & the story hanging over some dreaful precipice .... My only moan is the length of time between book's ... as is the case with the Logan series ... if it's a long time since you read Birthday's for the Dead, th... moree first in the Ash Henderson serie's, then i strongly sugest a re-read.
review 2: Poor Ash Henderson is in prison and his career is in tatters, but he gets released so he can help his former colleagues with a murder investigation. That mean Irish woman Mrs. Kerrigan is still after him to pay his "debts," and her henchmen give him several good and gory hidings. And the crime he is investigating is as grisly as heck. All the lovely Scottish slang makes A Song for the Dying a joy to read. less
