review 1: Another bit of english history, the nine days queen Jane Grey, no love lost between her and her people, poor Guildford Dudley. Jane Dudley's and Frances Grey's stories intertwine, tragic, both of them; but I felt more sympathy towards Jane than Frances, can't explain why exactly. Maybe Jane was more intense, passionate, honor bound, her suffering after loosing her loved husband and her struggle to save her sons, with tenacity, just tired at my heart strings; while Frances seemed fickle, selfish. Loved Adrian Stokes, will love to learn more about him and not to mention Robert and Elizabeth's story. An engaging read.
review 2: This book was so good. It's primarily set during the reign of Edward VI, and the story is presented from the point of view of Frances Grey
... more and Jane Dudley, the mothers of Jane Grey and Guildford Dudley. This author combined enough fact (she uses actual execution day speeches, letters, etc.) with fiction to make the story compelling. I found myself hoping, against all odds, that this time Queen Mary would pardon poor Jane and Guildford, although we all know that never happened. I really didn't expect a whole lot out of this book, but it's easily the best historical fiction I've read regarding Jane Grey, and probably the only one I can think of that focuses around the reign of Henry VIII's poor son. less

It's a different view of these women than I've seen before. It just wasn't very exciting.
