review 1: Both of these ghost stories set in contemporary England concern an unusual, perhaps haunted, house. The first concerns a man who feels the presence of an invisible small hand, like that of a child, in his own when he accidentally comes across a house when lost in the countryside and which he then continues to feel over and over again. The other involves two cousins, a boy and a girl, who spend a summer at a distant aunt's house and the gift of a doll for the girl given by the aunt in a failed attempt to bring her out of a continuous bad mood. As the plots in each thicken you will not want to stop reading until all is revealed.

I love dark and creepy stories such as these. Two stories in one book. I adore Susan Hill.
