review 1: I loved this book!!!! First of all I didn't realize that this was part of a series and was surprised when I was reading about Tess and Dominic's upcoming wedding and Isabel and her preparing for her cooking school and I was like what the heck these are the same characters from "The Apple Orchard"! That alone had me a bit giddy!!The "Apple Orchard" and "Beekeeper's Ball" are both great stories because their about family, friends, history, romance and overcoming obstacles. They are both well written and will leave you wanting more.No.. I'm not kidding, you will want more. Especially with the ending. I mean really??!! I have to wait now for the next one. Do you know how painful that will be?? Ugh!!
review 2: I picked up this novel not realizing it was a sequel unt... moreil I got through the first few chapters. Definitely, read The Apple Orchard, the first book, first.I was expecting a typical "chick lit" book, but the underlying (parallel) story begun in The Apple Orchard and continued in The Beekeeper's Ball is a fascinating and account of life in Denmark during the rise of Naziism, and the risks taken by Jews and Christian resistance fighters during that time. The legacy of three of those Danes and a Red Cross volunteer carries on in modern day northern California wine country in the lives of two sisters who discover one another as adults. There is still the element of romance that you might seek in a Susan Wiggs novel, but it takes a back seat to their family history and their current challenges running an orchard and apiary. less
