review 1: Oh man. There is no conflict in this book. There is not even anything bad that happens to the main character. Her life is charmed. She's a writer with three best selling books, can write anywhere she wants and her agent not only is her best friend, but manages everything else for her, like rental apartments. The worst thing that happens to her is an ankle sprain. Don't even get me started by her being a writer who suddenly has a book writing itself. That in itself isn't even the problem. It's just, as a character, she didn't seem strong or forceful. She says she is, a couple of times, but mostly she sort of floats through the book. The whole genetic memory thing didn't appeal either. Her 'ancestor' was interesting, but there wasn't a lot of focus on her character, either. ... moreI'll have to read her other books, but while this is an okay read, there's nothing that gripped me or held me.
review 2: As you can guess from the four stars rating, I liked the book. In addition to the fact that book contains some real-quality-awwwww-moments, I also enjoyed the writing style, that somewhat slow pace and general atmosphere. Both love lines are good though the contemporary one I found lacking of tension - I mean I know how the real life works but surely it`s not the real life we`re looking for in this kind of books. I also was not persuaded by the need to involve that kind of explanation to connection between the two stories, mainly, the "genetic memories" stuff. I found it rather difficult to believe that a person would go for that kind of explanation rather then just look for some other obvious reasons to obtain such a knowledge (history books and other sources, internet, etc.). Anyways I found it to be otherwise a really good book. Ordered another one of the author, we`ll see hot it goes :) less
