review 1: If u are 14 and want to read what u think a steamy, paranormal romance novel without any actual steam or romance- then this is the book for u. So many things in this book made my inner feminist rage with righteous fury! And the door mat lady side kicks?! But ado wasn't a doormat you say? Wtf dude. She so was. It's just the way it is blah blah- um nope. This is 2013. Girl should up and unloaded a magazine of fmj silver bullets up in that man then cut his head off for good measure. That is all I'm gonna say about that. And what kinda brother let's some dude openly leer at his younger sister, repeatedly???!!!!! Anywho- I digress. As aforementioned, if u are young and dumb this might so it for ya. The rest of use will read it praying it gets better, surely it gets better, a fe... morew more pages and it will get better. It does get better in book 2 for one shining bright moment and then our dreams are crushed.
review 2: The book focuses on Julia, a young woman who lost her parents at the age of 8 years old, although she has been brought up by her Aunt and lived her life normally, she has a boyfriend and a best friend, high school didn't appear to be too bad for her over all. However things come crashing around her. Soon she finds herself in the middle of some battle, werewolves want her, as do vampires because her blood is special, that marks her out to be one who can save either of these supernatural species. Yet she was completely unaware of her abilities. The blurb for this book sounded promising, I had hoped for something really interesting and a bit of a twist to the normal vampires vs werewolves fair that is always about.No.Instead I find myself reading this book and becoming really confused, really quickly. There are so many points of views and yet there was no real personality in any of those points of views, it was still written in third person not first, so why did the author even bother? There was also flash forwards as well, however the reader wouldn't have been aware of that fact, so it was really confusing in that respect as well. The characters were rather flat, and over all the book was rather dull. The interesting moment was that Julia was kidnapped by EVERYONE. Yet when she is taken by her own kind she acts normal, she acts like being kidnapped and was going to be used to breed is easily something to shrug off. Everything she went through, her man being killed before her eyes, being taken by vampires and then being taken by werewolves - personally I think she kinda would have had some kind of breakdown of sorts really. There was also the romance element in it as well that irked me. Jason was the first, which was essentially fine; then we have a vampire called William (Oh yes, there was a POV for him too) and then there was Scott.Normally I say at the start of my review that the plot was fine it was everything else, the characters ect that needed to be improved. Not so in this case, it was just too annoying, Julia still doesn't have a real clue what a Blood Singer is - to be honest neither do I, just that they are a special group of very rare people who have powers of various abilities... and can make vampires become day walkers or a werewolf free to change regardless of a full moon. The plot was just bad, Julia as a character was bland and irritating. The numerous side characters were all tedious and while some did have there moments, on the whole it was too much focus on Julia and nothing much explained about them. I got to read an extract of the next book and I can safely say I won't be reading it. less
