review 1: Not bad. Sort of like a mix of Heroes (television series), Saved by The Bell (original tv series), and Nancy Drew. Or something. I really like how the dialogue and writing capture that teenage mentality and inner monologue. With that being said, this is a safe read for young adults. I was hoping for more danger, hard choices, and loss. What I got was fun imagination and juvenile camaraderie. Definitely going to recommend that my kids read it when they're in high school.
review 2: Death WhispersThis series must be read in order. This is the first book. I miss the original version without all the added real life our world stuff like Obama and the RFID chips! The original version was more believable and chilling. Now I wish I had bought a hard copy so I could just
... more read the original :( That said the book is still really good... It was just awesome before...Caleb is growing up... The first sign of this for him is raising the dead as he passes out... Biology is so not his best subject! Dissection anyone? As he learns by experimenting he gains more control over his powers and he begins to realize that maybe he is in over his head and should start worrying about his future (or lack of it if the government gets wind of his abilities) and FINALLY tells his parents that he is a five point aftd. This book as an alternate earth timeline is very believable (though not as much as before) . I love this series and have read it many times up to the fourth book and am rereading it again as I just bought the fifth book and wanted to be fully immersed in the world when I read the new installment. I hope the changes do not continue as the beauty of this series was the vague scary government that while sort of like ours WASN'T ours ... But all in all it is an amazing series and I am always amazed at what the possibilities are and how things you never dreamed of happen anyway.I would suggest this series to all lovers of science fiction and dystopian fiction. It is young adult but takes maturity to fully understand the ramifications of the world they live in and the choices the kids have to make so adult will probably love it even more. I know I did!Death SpeaksThis is the second book. Thankfully the author did not alter it as much as she did the first book in the series and there are only a few cringe worthy moments where she tries to insert out world into her previously perfect distopian future book world :)This book picks up pretty much where the last one let off with the group of paranormals (and a couple of norms) finding their niche as a group of young adults with awesome powers. Caleb has been taking the summer off from corpse raising and it has been pretty uneventful even if it has been a lot of fun. That all changes when Caleb and Tiff agree to help find the serial killer that they discovered by accident on Friday the Thirteenth...All sorts of chaos ensues as they start high school and try to help the police figure out who is killing kids their age. No one knows how the victims are chosen or why they were killed. The group expands and more issues with the usual suspects arise. The only real issue I found was Brett was somehow in the highschool with them and he is supposed to be a mundane and they don't mix education wise. Otherwise it is an awesome second book to the series! This series is not for the squeamish as some of the violence and zombie related stuff is quite graphic. The main story would be teen friendly for the most part otherwise. I really love this series... even altered... and can't wait to reread the prequel Death Inception (The Death Series) which is now considered the third book.Death InceptionThis is the prequel but if fits into the series as the third book. This book has been expanded since I first read it and I have to say it is awesome! It explains not only who Clyde is but what he is to both Parker and Caleb if you bother to read between the lines and pay attention. It also clears up a lot of mysteries about the way Parker became Tue way he is and his true intentions. On top of that you get to peek into the lives of Caleb's parents before he was born and see some of how Caleb was as a small child pre inoculations. This book is a can't miss read full of insights and illuminations that tie together the whole series in a way I could not have anticipated. Unlike the last two books I found the revisions enlightening and truly worthy of being called awesomeness! I am even more hooked on this series now than I was years ago! I can not wait to reread the next book Death Screams (The Death Series) and will be starting it as soon as this review is finished :)***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers less
