review 1: Na het superspannende boek 'Dieper dan de doden' begon ik dus ook vol verwachting aan dit boek. Spijtig genoeg kon het niet helemaal aan de verwachting voldoen. De vele verwijzingen naar het vorig boek maakte het niet altijd makkelijk om te volgen en het duurde wel even voor ik met het verhaal mee was. Daarna las het wel weer vlot maar vond het plot toch tegenvallen. Allemaal iets te ver gezocht en daardoor ongeloofwaardig. Al bij al dus toch ontgoocheld in dit boek als Tami Hoag fan.
review 2: This is the second installment in the Oak Knoll trilogy, but doesn't much relate to the storyline established in the first book, aside from using some of the same characters. Do not read this one before Deeper than the Dead as it contains many spoilers to that book. Alth... moreough this was not an unenjoyable read, it is not up to Tami Hoag's usual level. The characters aren't as well developed as in other Hoag books and the plot feels flimsy. It was very difficult to care about who the killer was because I didn't care about any of the characters, including those we got to know in the previous book. And the story is unnecessarily long. The ending felt a bit rushed and forced. Definitely disappointed, but I will still read the final installment because I am hoping she will tie up the storyline started in the first book. less
