review 1: In some ways this book was great - excellent visual dictionary for some of the most popular and classic styles for every type of fabric and clothing. Each section has commentary from a noted fashion blogger and I did go online later to bookmark some whose style I liked. I wouldn't buy this for myself though, because this is very much aimed at a teen/young adult audience - or at least people who aren't afraid to be wildly creative with their fashion choices. One section that could use some real filling out was on colours. It started with a colour wheel and gave some very basic colour theory but didn't really explain how to determine what colours might look good on a person other than identifying that some people have warmer skin tones and some people have cooler ones. The t... moreheory is quite a bit more detailed than that - maybe they didn't want people to feel restricted in their colour choices, but again this kind of speaks to a younger, more adventurous audience. Someone like me - a 30-something mother with limited disposable income - really needs more targeted advice, since I don't have the cash to spend on clothes that don't make me look fantastic.
review 2: I really liked this (hence the 4 stars) especially the part about Tavi Gevinson and her licorice outfit. :) What I didn't like was how everything was about 'finding clothes that flatter your form, so you look hot and sexay and anorexic'. But whatevs. That may appeal to some, but it just isn't my interest. Anyways. If you haven't read this book, you should, or just look at the pics, because that's good too. If you like Tavi Gevinson, read the 2 pages of her and all of the rest of the book.The EndAnd Happy Birthday to whomever you may be. Just felt like saying that. less
