review 1: The fourth in a series featuring Vanessa, a/k/a Michael, an "informationist" or fixer. She is a savant with languages, brilliant at assimilating information and a wicked fighter. At the beginning of the book, she has fled to Djibouti to avoid the violence that follows her and has threatened the few people that she loves. Her boss is suspicious of her and forces her to accompany his team that is guarding a ship going through pirate-infested waters. The ship is taken over but there are layers of deception threatening everyone. I had thought the series was improving, but I didn't like this book as much. I have tended to like the main character more than the plots and this felt too much about plot and not enough about her character.
review 2: This was not as ... moregreat a book as the previous 3 books that Taylor Stevens wrote about Michael Munroe. I just could not stay interested in this book. I'm not sure that I will choose the next book by Stevens. Normally, these books were very thrilling and I couldn't wait to continue with each book. Just not this one. I didn't get that much out of the captain of the ship, and the swami who was murdered on the beach. less
