review 1: "Hacker" by Ted Dekker is a good book but by no means great. In a psychological thriller narrative largely played out in the human psyche, Dekker looks at the supernatural world and how it interplays with the natural world. He explores the unseen world and our hunger for knowledge. He looks at the importance of letting go of idols in our lives (in this case, intellectualism) to see the truth of God and to be able to learn to be in relationship with Him. This book isn't a masterwork by any means, but God used it to open my eyes to some things in my own life. If you try to make sense of everything, rather than just let God be God, maybe this book will benefit you. "Hacker" is an above average thriller with some cool ties to other Dekker novels.7/10
review 2: Over
... moreall, I did not enjoy this book. It had a pretty interesting premise, so I thought I would give it a shot.First of all, the entire book is cliche ridden. In the very beginning it starts out with something. And that's that her dad and brother are dead and the mother is slowly dying. The only reason why the author put that in was so the protagonist has a sob story so you would feel bad about her. Also the protagonist is of course a genius, graduated high school and college very young. And because of that was never really alive in the social life. When really it has nothing to do with the plot. An average person could become an excellent hacker. During the entire book, it felt like a huge bore. Nothing REALLY happens. There were a few moments that something interesting happened but then the author just glossed over it. At the end is when I was actually nervous about the protagonist. That was probably the only part I enjoyed. less
