review 1: This was very fun! I enjoyed the characters very much, and the sex scenes were amazing! However, I felt that the language and setting of this book didn't fit together quite well. The dialogue was very modern, but the era is supposed to be the early 1800s, so it was confusing. In fact, while reading the first few chapters, I couldn't grasp where and when this story was supposed to be set. In the end though, it was an enjoyable read.
review 2: I was surprised by how much I liked this one. I figured, after how much I enjoyed the first one, this one couldn't possibly measure up, especially with a premise as cliched as this. I mean, what could go wrong on a week long trip like that?But oh my. I think I loved this one more than the last one, and that was a high ba... morer. I always tend to find the really intelligent heroines the best, maybe because they always feel out of place. And in historical fictions, I feel that they are especially rare because it wasn't a good idea for women to be smarter than the men around them. (Arguably, that's still the case in many places today, but I digress.)Minerva has a whole lot of spunk that I didn't know existed in her. It was awesome. And Colin, he's a deep well, but he doesn't like anyone else knowing it. I love how Dare brings out characters that way. By the end of the book, I'm completely smitten with them.The first half of this book is ridiculously funny. The banter between Minerva and Colin is hilarious, as are the situations Colin gets them into. I was highly entertained by that alone.There's something magical about Spindle Cove, and I just want to keep coming back to these books. They are delightful, deep, and so funny. I can't wait to read the next one! less
