review 1: I didn't really have high expectations with this book, because I haven't been crazy about the last few books ive read by Dare. however, I was interested in Julian and lily's story. I love a relationship like theirs!Since when is lily 13th in line for the crown?! He has garters hanging in his club for his every conquest. Charming. So you’re blaming the reason on you being a rake because you were actually trying to get back at the aristocracy. By sleeping with their wives. Is your revenge supposed to make it right? He has a double life. Where is this coming from? How random and surprising. That first letter that lily found was so confusing. It was annoying how she walked away and didn’t let Laurent finish what he was saying about what Julian said. I thought it was going to b... moree about something important. It was annoying how she dropped Hollings’ coat on the ground. Did you forget the coat wasn’t yours? It was also dumb how she wanted to be seen in a compromising situation with Julian. She acted like a complete ninny. Who did you think was following you? The paparazzi? I mean, really. It’s too unrealistic that his mom was deaf. Like the only way a man could accept lily was if he knew someone deaf too. I would have respected the book more if the guy accepted lily for who she was. like a guy who hadn’t known a deaf person before. On their wedding night, Dare writes it where Julian climaxes and then doesn’t even mention if lily does. it’s like she didn’t even feel anything. It’s really weird. This has happened in another book I’ve read before. idk if it was by tessa dare or not. I didn’t like how she shared the news of her pregnancy with Julian at all. The signing was confusing. Is it regular sign language or are they drawing letters in midair?! &if she can read lips-and she can-then she doesn’t need to sign. I know she wanted to learn to sign, but the second she started, it was like she couldn’t understand anyone anymore.‘she deserved to be worshipped, feared.’ This is a great example of weird writing. Whoa there. You’re starting to sound crazy.‘let the bothersome lump be unharmed.’ Tell me she’s not talking about her baby.&since when does Claudia act like this? she’s acting like…a slut. Talking about the footman’s great legs. And then just proposing marriage because your baby doesn’t have a man. That’s no one’s fault but your own. I don’t remember her being so outrageous. I remember her being a brat, though.I knew as soon as faraday said he was in love who it was with. OMG. So did not expect that.Since when has lily known that leo was a molly? You cant have a character expect something without sharing it with us readers. Otherwise it comes out of left field.I cant believe she told Julian she doesn’t wanna be the reason he lives. I thought it was sweet how Julian said that. And lily used to feel the same way. then she changed her tune, and basically said that she could move on w/o him.I wasn’t crazy about how the book ended. And I hate when the epilogue isn’t centered on the main characters. It was also too long after the book. I like epilogues that are about a year later. There were so many kids in the epilogue, I couldn’t keep up.Ive only read a few books by tessa dare, and have only really liked one-the first one I’ve read by her. After not being crazy about some of them, this was a nice change.
review 2: 3.5 stars. It was not as interesting of a story as the first book in the series. I read this only because I wanted to find out who killed Leo and also more about Amelia and Morland. Julian and his secrets didn't seem deserving of Lily who I loved. I liked that Tessa wrote her as a strong woman who wasn't slowed down in life by her deafness, although being rich did make things easier for her. I lol'ed when she was fascinated watching Julian unlock his front door because she had never in her life needed to since she had footmen to open the door for her.... What does one call this, historical first world problems, regency Ton problems?I've read all the Spindle Cove books and those are lighter than the Stud Club series, Tessa is still a favourite author of mine, I've never read a book of hers I didn't like. less
