review 1: It is tough to not like this book because I do believe that he gives solid advice. However, I'm only giving it 3 stars because I don't feel like it is much different from other books out there on the same topic. If you feel like you are absolutely horrible at communicating then you will probably find this book to be immensely helpful. However, if you think you just need to fix a few things here and there this probably won't offer much more than what you already know. The only difference between this and other types of communication books is that he focuses on meditation or mindfulness. Basically the idea is that you cannot communicate well with others until you have learned to communicate well with yourself. I agree with this point and I think that is mainly what I need to... more focus on. That being said, a book on mindfulness/meditation, or just practicing will be a step in the right direction. He offers some interesting examples of practices that you can adopt in the last chapter, which I think ends up being one of the most helpful parts of this book.
review 2: With iPhones, Internet, complexities of modern living, we all have challenges to keep communication meaningful, and the best way to do it is by taking it all back to mindfulness. Such is a subject that Thich unceasingly talks about but you can never get bored with. Well, what I love is how simple and yet how deep his thoughts are. I begin to read, make my personal notes and I am inspired with things I didn't think of before that are not even written in the book. What I like about this book, as well as his other books, is that I finish the book and ask myself, in what practical ways can I change and be a better person in this area or that area? He offers excellent practical tips for people in relationships, in marriage, in friendship, etc. Whatever I take because it touched me and I begin to share it in my own way in Arabic is bound to move heart beyond words. less
