review 1: I really liked this book because I thought it was very interesting how this kid lived life. About every half a year maybe more maybe less this boy would change his name all of his records and move far away from were they were and started all over. His father worked for the government and he had to move a lot. I liked this book because he is a new kid always and he has a different outcome every time. This time at the beginning of the book he had a fight with the school bully named Nigel. I thought it was good for Brock (the main character) to stand up for himself. Then he played for the baseball team and I liked how every day he practiced. At the end of the book it was really cool how it ended with him hitting a two run home run to win the game. I really enjoyed this book ... moreand I cant wait to read the second.
review 2: Tommy Rust is always the new kid at school. For as long as he can remember, his secretive father moves them from state to state, always with new names, where they rarely stay for more than a year. So it is no surprise when in the middle of a state championship baseball game his father drags him from the game and moves them to a small town in New York State. Tommy is now Brock Nickerson and trying to fit in at his new school. When he befriends the school bully and gets in trouble for throwing rocks at the gym teacher's house he is given a choice; be reported to the police or play for Coach Hudgen's travel baseball team. Coach sees real talent in Brock's pitching and takes him under his wing. Brock, Coach and the other teenagers are characters you feel could be real. Each chapter draws you to the next wondering what will happen with Brock and the travel team and if Brock's dad will swoop in and make Brock leave this new life behind. Though sports books are not a genre I normally read, the story and characters were great. I would definitely recommend this book to both boys and girls in middle school. less
