review 1: This book started off great! I was intrigued and really enjoying the feel and suspense of the book. All of a sudden, near the end, maybe 85% in, it went waaaaay down hill. The love story (if you can call it that) fell completely flat. I felt nothing, absolutely nothing between the 2 characters. Then, he dropped the "L" word....really??? You've known this chick all of like 1 week!? Ridiculous. Once that happened, I was done! Not only that, but there are so many questions left and I don't mind being left hanging, or having a question or 2, but this one left me with more questions than when I started the book and that is huge pet peeve of mine! I don't understand what the "hollows" are, or why the vampyrus are ALL men, minus the 1 woman that all of a sudden sprouts wi... morengs at the end? Where do they "come from?" How were they created? Why does anyone stay in that town at all if they are being attacked by vampires? Why does going back to the hollows make the craving for human blood magically disappear? The entire thing just made no sense. There are other questions, as well, but they would be spoilers to mention so I won't go there. Bummer, too, because I think the book had real potential, and maybe all of these questions are addressed and answered in the rest of the books...?
review 2: Okay, I LOVE vampire books but it is so difficult to find good ones. And this wasn't one of them. I feel that I probably didn't enjoy as much because it is targeted at a younger audience and I like books that have character's with depth, plausible plots (I know this is a vampire novel so it's not going to be realistic but come on, this was just plain bizarre and ridiculous), and an intriguing and sexy love interest, which this book definitely didn't. I could see what Tim was trying to do with all the secrets surrounding her mother as an attempt to draw you in but I just really didn't care. There was no real reason why Kiera fell for the love interest, other than she thought he was pretty cute and it was pretty slim pickings in The Ragged Grove. Everything escalated incredibly quickly and all the 'twists' didn't surprise me because the whole book was so bizarre that I thought pretty much anything could happen. It is safe to say that I will not be reading the rest of this series. less
