review 1: Great book....explains a lot about why Kiera is the way she is.new romance? rekindled romance? Betrayal...Can't understand why the first book cover wasn't one this boo instead since it makes much more sense after reading this. I seriously never understood why the first cover had her crying blood....now I get the crying blood but not why it was the first cover.I kinda like the idea of this new romance.....I guess there is something to the bad boys after all :)
review 2: Compared to the first book in this series – which I was absolutely crazy about – this one left me feeling a little bit disappointed. It had none of the suspense, the pizzazz, or that unique eeriness O’Rourke managed to maintain so effectively during the first book, Vampire Shift. Not bei
... moreng a fan of vampire-themed books anymore (with the exception of Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse novels which will always remain a firm favorite with me), I fell in love with this series because it’s so different from all the other vampire books I’ve read up until then. In this second installment, the sense of dread and danger was still there, especially with the huge, old manor in a remote part of the country, surrounded by a moat, where Kiera now finds herself taking care of a teenage delinquent. But everything I loved so much about the previous book, wasn’t present in the second book. The writing which had me enthralled with Vampire Shift, just didn’t pack a punch the second time around and is in need of a good round of editing. Kiera’s character was in control of herself and her emotions in the first book, and it always felt as though she had a handle on things, but in book two her character sometimes acted immaturely and erratic. Where there were lots of action in Vampire Shift, the action only happened in the very last pages of this book, and the build-up to the conclusion were at times predictable. Overall it was still a good and enjoyable read, and the world-building was done spectacularly well. But in comparison to its predecessor, Vampire Wake fell a little flat. Still, I’m well aware that this sometimes happens to the second book in a series, so I’ll definitely be reading the third and fourth books which I already have on my kindle. I love where O’Rourke’s imagination takes the reader and how his vampires are different from all the others I’ve read in other books, and for that alone I give Vampire Wake a sold four-star rating. less
