Scanguards Vampires
review 1: Cain is a vampire without a past. He goes to work for Scanguards which is owned and operated by vampires. Lately Cain has been having dreams. Are they just that or is he starting to remember his past? John Grant shows up and tells Cain that Cain is a king and John is his personal guard. To save his kingdom, he must return. But Cain still can't remember his past. Several of the Scanguard members decide to accompany him and help protect him. Cain's brother Abel is set to take over the kingdom, and to marry Cain's lover Faye. John stays by Cain's side giving him names and positions of people he meets as he returns to his kingdom. Abel is angry, Faye is overjoyed. But Cain does not remember Faye. Was she part of the 1st assassination attempt? The one where he lost... more his memory? Cain is betrayed by more than one person. Will he ever get his memories back? How can he rule a country he cannot remember? Protect it from enemies he cannot remember? Can Scanguards protect Cain? Is Cain better off going back to Scanguards? He at least has learned to live and work there.
review 2: Cain has always been somewhat of an enigma, showing up out of nowhere with no memory of his past suffering from what one could only assume is amnesia. He was beginning to fit in, feeling that he was finally home when he started getting the feeling that something wasn’t right, he shouldn’t be taking orders from anyone only he couldn’t understand why he felt that way. When a stranger shows up out of nowhere though claiming to be the head of his personal guard and that Cain is the Vampire King of New Orleans, it kind of makes sense only he doesn’t believe him. It’s absurd to believe that he could be a King but when he shows him a picture of the woman that he has dreamed about every night for the past few months, he can’t help but believe or rather hope that there is some truth to his claim. Following a man that Cain doesn’t remember and doesn’t really trust doesn’t come easy for any of the Scanguards but true friends help those in need so they set out to find the truth. A truth that might lead them all into a trap. This book was in a word, AMAZING! It keeps you on the edge of your seat for most of the last half wondering who can you can trust and who you can’t. I loved that so many of the other Scanguards had such a prominent role in this book and that some of the ones that had small scenes in past books where back in this one. My only complaint is that the book seemed to end abruptly. What could have been a major battle and explained in detail was skipped over and explained what had happened with very little detail at all. It wasn’t enough to deter me from giving the book 5 stars though because to me the Scanguard series are one of the best ones out there and other that one thing, the rest of the book was flawless. I can’t wait to see what Tina comes up next. less
