review 1: The second book in the Summerset Abbey trilogy this continuation where the first book left off was a very enjoyable read. I'm continually interested in what happens to Rowena, Prudence, and Victoria. While their personal stories are interesting, I'm also liking the historical aspect as well. The writing is well-done being at times both dramatic and light. Looking forward to book three which takes the girls into WW1.
review 2: I really enjoyed the second book in this trilogy, much more than the first. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, rather than 4, just because I'd actually say I like the time period the author is writing about much more than I actually like the characters/story. However, it's growing on me.....so I'll round up to a 4.I will fully admit t... morehat it took me some time to warm up to Victoria, Rowena, and even Prudence (who seems to be the most lovable/relatable of the girls). I listen to the audiobooks while I drive, and then pick up reading where I left off before I go to sleep. I feel like the only reason I found the first book as boring as I did was that it drags on a lot longer when I have to actually listen. It could be that the narrator also makes Victoria very difficult to listen to...ha.However, as the girls have tried to adapt to their new lives, they have started to grow on me. Their experiences with discrimination because of class and sex have matured all three of them, as well as their first experiences with love. I'm finding myself liking them more and more, which for me, inherently makes me more invested in the story. less
