review 1: Yankee Doodle is CRANKY! He does not want to go into town, he has no need for a hat and even less need for a feather in it. What is a pony to do? Funny book. I read it to 2nd grade since they will not be involved in the Virginia Readers Choice primary picks next year. I also read it to 3rd grade and connected it to the Origami Yoda series which only a few in that class had read. This book is a great book for reading with expression. I'm not sure how well Kindergarten will like it though.
review 2: At first I thought this was not going to be a hit as my kid has never heard me sing the song, but I brought it home anyway because I liked the pictures. Boy was I wrong. My son absolutely loved it. He actually has the last page passage (~100+words) memorized, which is... more all text with two tiny pictures and I read it super fast because I thought it was funny but didn't think he'd want to have to sit through. 5 years old and absolutely perfect for him. He's probably reciting passages to his friends a school as we speak. less
