review 1: The story wasn't spectacular, there was no hero and the people weren't perfect, but the redeeming quality was just how REAL the characters are. They are flawed and no where NEAR perfect, you feel connected to the characters because every time someone makes a stupid mistake they become THAT much closer to being real. Every time you want to punch the Dad or the brother for their choices, the choices that could tear their family apart, they become more real. They become 'people' and no longer characters, there really is only one character that feels like a 'character' and that is only because of "the eye of the beholder": the main character's view. Great Book! Though possibly inappropriate for some ages.
review 2: I liked the book and it kept me reading for days
... moreI didn't get tired of it like I do with most books .I think a lot of teens would enjoy the book or anybody who wants a good read. The way the book shows such a in depth view of Travis's life and you get a real idea of the traumatic change a soldier has to make when he or she gets back to the states.Basically a young man named Travis comes home from being a marine over seas, and has to adjust to his new life style as a civilian. A lot of awkward things have put him in a weird situation with his brother. He just doesn't feel at home .But something in his life will change for the better. The book gets real interesting and keeps you guessing.Tis book would fit in the contemporary genera.this a very good book and i suggest reading it. less
