review 1: "Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.""The Unbound", Victoria Schwab's sequel to 2013's "The Archived", is another richly imagined, deftly written page-turner, picking up, essentially, where the first novel ended. As a Keeper for the Archive, Mackenzie Bishop has been tasked with the job of returning violent wandering ghosts, or Histories, to the Archive's shelves. Now, plagued by nightmares involving a History that nearly killed her, she's finding it hard keeping up with the list of names the Archive sends her. When three people disappear without a trace, Mackenzie realizes they had one thing in common: her. And when she discovers voids at their last location, she begins to wonder if the Archive knows more than they are letting on, or if her nightmar... morees are becoming reality.I enjoyed this book. It is a very interesting and creative take on the supernatural. Although it took me a little while to recall the action and events of the first, it all fell quickly into place. Schwab does a very good job with pace and plotting, building the suspense right up to the end. Most of the book revolves around the action with little further character building, although there are some insights into Wes, Mackenzie's enigmatic fellow Keeper and love interest. As before, Schwab touches on the themes of loss and grief as well as fears of acceptance and the expectations of others. There are also just enough unanswered questions at the end to set-up the next installment. A highly recommended read for anyone looking for something beyond the usual themes in YA fiction.
review 2: No mentiré, este libro fue fantástico. Me encantó tanto como The Archived.
