review 1: Enjoyable and ridiculous cross-dimensional secret war crime case for the X-Men. For me, the best bit is all the alternative endings, where in multiple other universes the X-Men fail to save the day and everyone ends up dead. It gets to have its cake and eat it. Also, I like anything that deals with the consequences of M-Day, because it's the most interesting thing to happen in the X-Men in the last 30 years, maybe ever. This shows (SPOILER) Forge essentially go mad and breed a Frankenstein race of artificially created mutants outfitted with all kind of gizmos to be his mad army of unstoppable bastards when the world is invaded by a malevolent force from another dimension. However you get the idea that the invading force is just the excuse and that he would have been doing ... morethis anyway because he couldn't stand the thought of no more mutants. It's the horror of seeing his entire race almost entirely wiped out that is too much to bear, and he must build a world with mutants in it by any means necessary. This is why M-Day's great, because it shows up the cracks so clearly. Being a tiny, powerless, endangered minority, who will inevitably die out in time, is something Forge cannot accept to such an extent he will torture and mutilate other beings just to create new mutants. Who knew he was capable of that?P.S. Giant nod to Forge's Native American heritage, goes unmentioned in the book but is obviously analogous and part of the character's extreme reaction to the (second) near-extermination of his race.
review 2: Warren Ellis and his work have always been hit or miss for me in the past. I have loved some of his work while hating others. Here, sadly its much closer to hating it. His X-Men don't read like they've been the last two years or forty years for that matter. The villain's reveal was out of left field but not in a good way and the team's reaction to him and his demise was troubling. Simone Bianchi's art was......off. The characters looked ugly and dark but its just personal preference. Overall, this certainly doesn't live up to the hype. less

There is no more consistently brilliant comic book writer alive than Warren Ellis.

Adding new X-men like Armor into the storylines is nice.
