review 1: I can't think of a single redeeming quality about this volume, one star is an overly generous rating. The artwork was clumsy, dull and far inferior to the previous artists on Astonishing X-men. As for the writing ugh, after having Joss Whedon and Warren Ellis, I would compare Daniel Way's writing to a fart in an elevator, both unpleasant and unnecessary. This book is everything that is wrong with the comic book industry all in one ugly little parcel. So utterly juvinelle, the characters were anything but realistic, instances like Wolverine pleading for a monster's life were just cringe worthy. There was no sense of suspense, the dialogue was uninspired and there was no real character development unless you count that nonsense with the funeral. Absolutely nothing of i... morenterest to be found in this one.
review 2: I am a very visual person (which is why comic books have always appealed to me). For this reason, I have a hard time getting into comic book stories where the artwork isn't very good (in my opinion). And this was one of those books that I was really glad I borrowed from the library and didn't buy. I found the artwork (especially the far away scenes) to not be of my tastes. I don't really have the language to discuss artwork other than I almost put the book down after the first couple of pages. Still, I gave it a go to see what was up with my favorite comic book team (I gave up comic book reading for years till recently picking them back up at the library). And what I found left me disappointed. The story was very forgettable. Here's hoping you didn't make the same mistake I did and didn't pick this up. less
