review 1: I read this amazing book because my best friend did. i read it for a project in school too. the book is basically about a boys (Jamie) mother, his mother is captured by vampires, the adventure starts with that moment. Jamie is then thrown head first into a secret department dealing with vampires, Jamie is on a mission to save his mom and nothing is stopping him. I love the characters in this book, the worldwide settings, the other fictional classic monster characters, this book is a wicked mix of action, adventure, romance, and plot. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for a great paranormal action book. I would suggest people under 13 should NOT read this book do to excessive GORE

If you're on the fence about reading this book, you shouldn't be because YOU SHOULD READ IT.Reading it feels exactly like watching a movie. The images are so vivid. The flashbacks in between the present time were great. I wanted to know what happened years before, but then the next chapter continues on with the present and that story made me want to know more as well. There was no dull moment and 90% of the time I was on the edge of my seat.Personally, this book is like a mix of Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson and The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. If you're a fan of either one, you should definitely pick this up.[SPOILERS]random thoughts:1. I pictured Jamie as Adam Sevani for some reason2. How does someone get turned into a vampire exactly? For example, Larissa was supposed to die of a vampire's bite but instead she turned into a vampire.3. Van Helsing can throw shade. haha4. I found it alarmingly quick how Jamie trusted Larissa. I was seriously suspecting her until the last page.5. Frankenstein getting angry and yelling at Larissa :o6. Why did Frankenstein have to die? I felt like it was unnecessary. 7. The book's cover is so badass8. I really wish that Valeri would turn on the vampires, take the Department's side and kill Dracula9. I'm confused as to how the Department is kept a secret let alone the monsters. less
