review 1: Loved it! Read it to my boys quick at lightning speed. Better than the second book because we got lots of backstory on Toothiana, who is a fully realized character unlike Bunnymund still remains a quiet enigma. This book is much more violent than the others, though the characters do ultimately learn a moral lesson about wanting to kill others, that even bad guys deserve mercy. This spawned a discussion with my boys about what was the appropriate thing to do with bad guys that keep trying to kill you over and over and just won't stop. My gut instinct was "kill him!" but I went with "jail?". We'll see how it plays out in the next book. My only worry is that the series is scheduled to be 6 or 7 books long and after we finish number 4, we'll have to wait and wait for the other... mores. My boys will grow up before the whole series is published. Boo hoo.
review 2: this is the third novel in the guardian's series by william joyce and it does a wonderful job continuing the fantastical and fun world that wlliam joyce has created. this one finds the guardians learning about another guardian named toothiana. i very much like this character as i think she is quite an interesting addition into the group. as one of the guardians is captured by the monkey king and pitch the rest must go after her in a battle for her safety. what follows is another very good read but this time leaves you on a horrid cliffhanger! highly recommended if you like the first two guardian books! less
