review 1: I loved this installment of The Guardians series. Toothiana's backstory was described as "bloody" and while it is, "heartbreaking" is the term that I would have chosen. I feel like in this book Joyce really begins to bring together the elements of the world he is building and the series begins to build momentum. And of course, you know it's a good book when at the end (a cliff hanger) I yelled "ARE YOU SERIOUS YOU'RE GOING TO END IT THERE?" My only complaint is that the next one isn't out yet.
review 2: I loved this story of how the Tooth Fairy came to be. Similar to he other Guardian novels, we don't meet Queen Toothiana until about 1/2 way through the book, but we hear her beautifully told back story before that, which really helps you to get to know the char
... moreacter. And like all of Joyce's other books you learn about a side of the Tooth Fairy that you didn't know about, such as she carries a sword and does not trust adults. The book does leave with a cliffhanger, so I am excited to read the next book.As with the other Guardian novels, I read it to my kids but the archaic language had me explaining a lot as we read. They still enjoyed it though. less
