review 1: Joukko Susi vs. Kanit -kännykkäpeliin koukkuun jääneitä nuoria löytää itsensä hylätystä sairaalarakennuksesta, ja sitten peli muuttuu todeksi: yksi tytöistä murhataan ja muiden käsivarsiin on tatuoitu viivakoodeja, joilla sairaalan ovia voi avata.Yoshiki Tonogain neliosaisessa mangassa "Doubt" (Punainen jättiläinen, 2013) on sinänsä ihan jännittävä ja mielenkiintoinen juoni, kun nuoret yrittävät selvittää onko heidän keskuudessaan murhaaja, vai onko kaikki jonkun pirullisen ulkopuolisen käsialaa.Sarjakuva on kuitenkin kauhulle kovin vaikea formaatti, ja pariin otteeseen tuli mieleen että pimeillä sairaalan käytävillä hiippailu olisi voinut toimia paremmin elokuvana. Sarjakuvan henkilöhahmot eivät myöskään tässä tyylilajissa saisi olla... more kovin yksiulotteista tykinruokaa, jotta lukija voisi kiintyä heihin, ja välittää todella siitä mitä seuraavaksi tapahtuu. Nyt ei niin oikein käy.Kaksi tähteä on ehkä liian vähän, mutta kolme tuntuu taas liian paljolta.
review 2: I don't really read manga much(well, am planning on reading Death Note -series). I've read all the 4 volumes of Doubt now.I was in a book store, looking for Death Note -manga, when this book caught my attention. Nice cover-art (I've got some thing about bunnies obviously, heh), it made me pick this up and check it out. Interesting story setting (and, relatively short and complete series, yay - sometimes I'm impatient and want something with a finish as opposed to a long series that has ~100volumes or so..). The story wasn't exactly what I expected though (I guess I was expecting it to be more complicated and that I would have gotten to know the characters more and really be deeply involved in figuring out the mystery identity of the Wolf - nope), a lot darker and bloodier. Scary. Twisted. A bit insane. As I'm reading, I realize I don't really know anything about the characters - and maybe that's why the story didn't really draw me in so strongly. The connections between them are revealed later on, but a little too late. The reader is thrown in the middle of the story without much information, kinda like the players of this sick game and the backstory is revealed at the end of the series. It's like a horror movie settting, really. 6 people in an abandoned place with locked doors and one of them is already dead when they wake up, "guess who the Wolf is" - is it someone in the group or is this someone else's game all together...Not entirely satisfying, but ok :) less
