review 1: Even after more than 100 years, this book is still one of the lighthouse for today's young generation, especially those who come from developing countries like me. In this book, the author advocated for the adoption of Western models of education to help the Japanese people build a modern country. I think I am really lucky to have the chance to visit Fukuzawa Yukichi's resident in Nakatsu, Japan when I was a university student. He was also the founder of Keio University - one of the prestige schools in Japan. This is a "must-read" book for everyone who would like to understand more about Japanese culture, its transition period and how Japan became such a powerful nation as today.
