review 1: A great addition to the series. Dembski-Bowden is a great author, too. As is apparent with each of his contributions to this world-building/epic story, this is yet another continuation of the "fall from grace". But what makes this piece of the story stand out even more is that Angron is not "falling from grace"--he's falling from poor circumstances and madness. From low to lower. It was interesting to get more depth into his character. He is at once intelligent and stupid, independent and a slave, and one-dimensional and multi-faceted. It was really quite a great take on him and I highly enjoyed it. Lorgar is also becoming a favorite of mine. Again, Dembski-Bowden writes him very well and each scene with him is a great read. Definitely one of the better installments of the... more Horus Heresy.
review 2: So in this novel we find out a lot about how much of an utter dick Erebus is. Sure there is stuff afoot with evil plans, primarchs going all supermano et supermano, even another invasion of ultramar, all the cool chaos lords are doing it, but at least the Logar Aragon bromance are the first ones. But do not lose sight of the real protagonist of the book, mr utter dwad, Erebus. If there is a chaos power dedicated to being a sick twisted manipulator..... oh wait never mind less
