review 1: My first McKinty novel and I really enjoyed it. Plot-wise, it was simple enough, and somewhat predictable but (always the clincher for me), the characterization and the details were interesting and a little different. I listened to it and the narrator was Irish and I am having a difficult time deciding whether it was the prose itself that seemed lyrical or just the brogue and cadence of the narrator. I guess a bit of both, because the narration was, unbelievably, a little deadpan at times. The book was grim and It was also funny in spots - an odd combination but it worked for me and I am going to seek out more McKinty novels.
