review 1: I enjoyed reading Alexander Gordon Smith's "Death Sentence". Death Sentence is the third installment of the Escape from Furnace series. There is five books so I want to finish the story and read the last two. I haven't read the second one sadly. In the third book, Alex is still trying to escape from Furnace Penitentiary and in the previous book, he tries and is punished and in this book his punishment is getting injected with the 'nectar" which is a juice the warden uses to kill you from the inside and turns you into a wheezer, a large gas-mask wearing and black suit wearing monster. Alex knows what to do when injected and still has a goal on escape and a new goal to expose Furnace of its inner evil! I could not really see any flaws in this book and like the previous book ... moreis very graphic, violent, and insane! I would recommend this book to anybody who likes very dark subjects and evilness. I would definitely say read the first two books first or you wont understand anything that is going on in this thriller by Alexander Gordon Smith!
review 2: I chose this book because I wanted to continue the series. This book is about Alex, the main character, who is trying to get out of prison for a crime he did not commit. After many attempts he finally traps all the guards underground and escapes. My favorite quote from this book is ,"I was out, I was free." I chose this quote because I think he felt so relieved that he was out after all that time in prison. I would recommend this book to middle and high school students interested in suspenseful stories. less
