Escape From Furnace
review 1: The book Lockdown was written by Alexander Gordon Smith and was a very good book. Its a book that should teach you a lesson. The book is about a kid name Alex Sawyer and he's like an ordinary kid. He hangs out with friends and does what an ordinary kid does. Alex then started to steal and follow what his friends did. They broke into houses and stole whatever they saw. They would steal and steal until they finally got caught. When trying to rob this house they get stopped by a man in a black suit. Who then kills Alex's friend right in front of him, then get convicted of the murder. Alex is then sent to the furnace, which is a place that nobody ever wanted to go. The labor that had to be done, the killing that they would do. There was no chance of escape. The book was a grea... moret book, the moral of the story and the outcome was perfect. It also teaches people lesson that even though your friends do something doesn't mean you have to do it, even if its the last time you'll ever do it. The consequences that you have are unknown, so don't take the chance. Alex should have never started invading houses and stealing other wise he would never be in that situation.
review 2: I found out about the book about 2 years ago during a book talk. It sounded pretty cool but I never got around to reading it until now. It doesn't say exactly where it takes place, but it is in the city. The main character, Alex, has to face both external and internal conflicts. He was a dynamic character throughout the story. He never did anything bad until he started bullying kids in elementary school. He ended up starting to rob houses with his friends and eventually, he got framed by the blacksuits after they murdered his friend, thus, landing him in a new high security prison for young offenders called the Furnace. He was clever, had an "autopilot" mode (like an adrenaline rush and muscle memory combined), and he also had good mental stability. "Dont make the mistake of bringing your heart down here with you, there is no place for it in Furnace" (Smith). I think the message from the book is that actions have consequences since they built the Furnace after "The Summer of Slaughter". Laws also had gotten more strict for young offenders, so there were many teens who went to the Furnace. In my opinion, the book wasn't really supposed to have a message/theme, it was supposed to be more of a suspenseful type of book series. I would highly recommend it to people that want a suspenseful action type of book. less
