review 1: An epic read. Remy.. if the world was to end hope i am like her. She is kick butt. Remy ends up getting separated from her little brother when the zombies attack the school turn military compound for survives. He's 'sick' so he was kept in a different area. So this begins the action packed, on the edge of your seat journey to reach her brother at a different compound. Where shes joined by Harlow, a lion named Ripley( Love the name. The aline movies are one of my fav.) a rock star (Before the world turned to crap) And a pre-med student. They journey together toward the compound, facing zombies (Where Remy truly kicks butt) and a colt, and a town at war with its self. Action. lots and lots of action. When they finally make it to the compound. Remy finds out that her little b... morerother is being experimented on by the doctors and scientist there. She comes up with a plan. Gets her brother max out. Blue (pre-med student.) and Ripley. they go to the town thats at war with itself. Mean while Remy sections places with max. then on to the next book. This book mad me laugh, mad at times and yelling go Remy in my head. and theres some romance.I love this book. It is definitely a Re-read type.Would i recommend this. Yes, you dont know what yo9ur missing out on.Would i read the next in the series. YESWould i re~read.. you know it.
review 2: 2.5 starsWhy I read it:I picked this book up for two reasons: (1) it was on sale; and (2) I was curious about Amanda Hocking after her meteoric rise in publishing. What I liked about it:I really liked how Hocking hit the ground running in this. She writes a good action scene, and there was plenty of action in this book. The world-building was also solid, and I loved the main character, Remy (at least, throughout most of the story), finding her toughness and determination plausible given the circumstances. What I didn't like:At about the 3/4 point, the story started to fall apart for me. Hocking had made all her characters more or less three dimensional until that point, but then she introduced a new one who behaved too much like a puppet for my taste, seeming to exist only to help her get the story to where she wanted it to go. The ending itself was a disappointment as well, feeling loose and rushed and not really fitting with Remy's character. The book could have used a heavier copyediting hand as well, especially with regard to misused words.Final thoughts:Hollowland was a decent read, and I think Hocking has some serious storytelling potential. I'd be interested in reading her later works (I had the impression this one was from earlier in her career), but I won't be continuing this series. less
