review 1: I am a fan of Amber Kell. I love her Wizard’s Touch series especially. William’s House introduces us to brand new characters and a brand new world. While there is still wizardry, there are also voids (humans that actually void out magic), zombies and ley lines. William is the youngest son of the Stamson family (think huge, powerful, old money) and every time a relative dies they leave at least a million to him because he is the poor non-magical relative… in fact he’s a Void, a rare human that can dispel magic. He wants to move away from his overbearing family and ends up buying a beat up, run down, old house that’s filled with angsty magic in a small town. Turns out there is way more to the house, the town and everything than it actually seems.I loved William’s... more character. A lot of people are turned off by spoiled heroes/heroines. I have to say when they are not well done I am too. William is spoiled, he knows it, but he’s not spoiled rotten. He sets up and creates numerous charities, he donates money and time, he just enjoys being pampered and quite honestly if you had all the money in the world and didn’t like cleaning or cooking would you make yourself simply because you didn’t want to appear ‘spoiled’? No… I wouldn’t either. Now our other hero Cassius/Cash is interesting as well considering he is straight and one of the council’s ‘dogs’. I do wish Kell had gone in depth with Cash. I felt like I didn’t really get to know him as well as I could have. He believes William is his mate; he’s alpha-ish and is a powerful magic user… but what about him and his history?Kell usually writes novella e-books, but this one was a lot longer, which I especially enjoyed. It allowed the readers to meet the family, get a good old fashioned plot line and conflict going as well as a resolution. One more complaint (not a biggie I promise) is that the zombie part of the book was minuscule. It ended up being big in the end, but throughout the entire book zombies were mentioned briefly. I think Kell could have done way better by fleshing out that whole plot line and I would have been even happier. All in all I really hope she writes another book in this series, not only are we introduced to some of William’s interesting family members, but also to some of Cash’s colleagues. I think she has opened up a very nice world that is just waiting to be explored. Enjoy!Bitten by Books for ARe Cafe
review 2: I liked the world of this book with the various magic users. William and Cash are a cute couple. The twist as to who was behind the problems that Will encounters was well done. I enjoyed the scenes with Will and his family and his relationships with his parents and brothers. My one complaint is that I felt like the story ended rather abruptly - I'm hoping that since this is a series, we will get the rest of the story soon! less
