review 1: Although I definitely prefer Amy Lane's angstier stuff, I still found this one to be a lot of fun. I loved Jace's fierce love and possessiveness of Quent. I loved the determination that Jace displayed in solidifying the relationship. I loved that there was never a doubt really for either of them. Insecurity, yes. Doubt, no. I got a little bogged down in the card analogies even though it was the backbone of the story. In the end, this book had a simple storyline that chronicled Jace and Quent's dating relationship. Would've liked to have maybe a bit of their friendship prior to their relationship be a part of the book. Bottom line though, Amy Lane excels at writing likeable characters, great sex scenes, and stories that reach your heart. Even though this story was... more different from the stand point that it really was a non-story, I still loved it.
review 2: I had a hard time buying that these men had known each other for many years, even lived together for a while, and kept these kinds of secrets from each other. Jace loves Quent so intensely and never once let on! Once I let go of that niggling annoyance, the story was enjoyable. Not great, but good. The sex scenes were incredibly hot, but I got really tired of the poker is life references (the Go-Fish is life scene was really funny and sexy). The underlying sweetness of Jace once he admitted his feelings, in his rough way, was a nice surprise. less
