review 1: Alright... I'm prepared to have this be an unpopular review and what-not. In my defense, I really like m/m contemporary romance, so this was totally my cup of tea. Though, admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of novellas or smaller novels... but it's Amy Lane. Usually, that means good, happy things. Not that this was unhappy... but you see where I'm going, right? There was every expectation that this would be a winner. A winter m/m cozy little 'filler' book.*Sigh*Maybe it's because I'm not a knitter. I am still savvy enough to recognize a good knitting pun, and they were there in spades. But just because you make a knitting pun doesn't mean it's funny. Except for a few choice moments (like the cock cozy, which in an ironic turn, I actually own one of those things despit... moree not having the correct equipment to use such things on myself... but I digress) I just wasn't overcome with warm fuzzies. It was almost more of a 'thank god that's over and I can move on to another book'. I'm almost ashamed to admit that, but there you have it. Others have found this fun and festive... so it's always possible I'm just a freak. Though I am re-thinking my belief that Amy Lane will always be decent read for me - but that's just me. If you're a m/m fan, especially like knitting and awkward gay characters, this may be just the book for you. It just wasn't for me.
review 2: 3.5*. A shortish but nice read. One that grew on me as I read. At the start I was a bit confused, especially by Rance. He does come over as majorly socially inept, but obviously a wool miracle worker.Ben to me was a goody two shoes type - that's how I read him until his stand off with Stanley!I enjoyed learning about processing fleeces to yarn, learned a new high value scrabble word (qiviut!) and liked the humour in the story. less
